Insurance

The City of Corinth provides medical, dental, life, AD&D, and long-term disability insurance for employees at no cost. Dependents may be covered under these plans at group rates. The City also offers optional programs including voluntary vision, voluntary short-term disability, additional life and AD&D, and accident insurance. All employees are covered by workers' compensation for injuries sustained in the line of duty.

Holidays

Employees receive 11, twelve-hour shifts (132 hours) of holiday time per year.

Vacation

0 through 4 Years 120 hours per year (5 shifts)
5 through 9 Years 180 hours per year (7.5 shifts)
10 Years and above 240 hours per year (10 shifts)

Sick Leave

Earn 144 hours of sick leave per year and can accrue up to a maximum of 1010 hours of sick leave.

Retirement

The City of Corinth participates in the Texas Municipal Retirement System. Employees contribute 7% of their salary to the program. Upon retirement, the City of Corinth will match the employee’s contribution two to one.

Deferred Compensation

The City of Corinth offers an optional deferred compensation 457 plan in which employees can contribute a portion of their salary, before taxes, to a retirement account. The city will match 10% of employee's contribution into a 401(a).

Longevity

Employees who have been with the City of Corinth for at least six months earn $6 per month for every month worked. 

GENERAL PURPOSE:  Under general supervision, maintains Lake Cities Fire Department (LCFD) equipment and facilities, and performs firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical duties as required to protect the lives and property of the City residents; acts as lead medical technician for patient care.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responds to emergency alarms and calls for service, and performs fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical duties as required to control emergency incidents; relays orders, instructions and information on emergency actions, and follows orders under stressful conditions.
  • Performs assigned duties according to LCFD policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Operates emergency, fire, rescue, medical and life saving tools and equipment; assists and coordinates with law enforcement personnel and other responders as required; ventilates and enters burning structures to extinguish fires and rescue victims.
  • Mitigates hazards, emergency situations and hazardous materials incidents; performs salvage and clean-up activities at fire and emergency scenes.
  • Acts as lead medical technician for emergency care; provides advanced life support services including invasive and non-invasive medical procedures and treatment modalities.
  • Inspects and maintains LCFD facilities, vehicles, equipment, apparatus, tools and supplies; inspects, tests, evaluates and repairs equipment after use; notifies supervisors of equipment problems beyond the scope of authority or skills.
  • Inspects and maintains personal protective equipment and assures that all firefighting equipment is in a state of readiness and available for immediate use.
  • Performs station maintenance; maintains station living quarters in clean and orderly condition; operates, inspects and maintains ambulance and other fire equipment; performs minor repairs on apparatus and equipment inside and outside of facilities.
  • Participates in accident and fire prevention programs, and public safety activities.
  • Continuously updates knowledge of City geography, traffic patterns, streets, landmarks and building locations, and special hazards of designated facilities.
  • Attends training programs to continuously update work skills and knowledge.
  • Maintains the integrity, professionalism, values and goals of the City by assuring that all rules and regulations are followed, and that accountability and public trust are preserved.
  • Responds outside of normally scheduled work hours in response to special events, natural disasters, emergencies, or critical incidents as determined by the City.
  • Cooperates with co-workers professionally to accomplish work efficiently and effectively.
  • Has regular, predictable attendance; attendance is a factor in continued employment with the City.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.

Required Licenses or Certifications:

  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Texas Class B driver license.
  • Certifications as a Firefighter from Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP).
  • AND Licensed or Certified Paramedic from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), National Registry Paramedics are required to obtain State License or Certification within 60 days of employment.
  • OR Firefighter/EMT completing Paramedic school within 4 months of their start date.

Required Knowledge of:

  • City organization, operations, policies and procedures.
  • Fire Department SOP, guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations governing fire safety.
  • Principles and practices of modern fire suppression and prevention.
  • Procedures and equipment used in modern firefighting and emergency medical response.
  • Practical application and general properties of a wide variety of drugs and medications.
  • Advanced principles of emergency medical service and life support.
  • Methods and techniques of handling hazardous materials.
  • City geography, traffic patterns, and the location of all streets, landmarks and buildings.
  • Customer service standards and protocols.

Required Skill in:

  • Providing firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical services under emergency conditions.
  • Observing and following safe firefighting practices.
  • Following orders under stressful conditions.
  • Recognizing the construction, contents and occupancy of buildings in order to apply appropriate basic firefighting techniques.
  • Assessing complex emergency medical situations, stabilizing patients, and providing advanced emergency medical care.
  • Performing maintenance and repair of firefighting vehicles, facilities and equipment.
  • Maintaining physical condition required for the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.

Physical Demands / Work Environment: 

  • Work is performed outdoors and indoors at emergency incident sites, and in fire station facilities; requires strenuous physical efforts, and ability to lift and move items weighing up to one hundred (100) pounds; may be exposed to environmental allergens, gases, fumes, hazardous chemicals, communicable diseases and potential physical harm. Must be able to work in uniform during weekdays, weekends, and holidays on any assigned shift.
  • Must maintain a level of physical fitness to meet Department standards.
