Pay: $24.63 to $29.55 per hour      

Under general supervision, performs skilled labor in the repair and maintenance of City Water and Wastewater (W/WW) facilities and operations, and leads an assigned work crew, in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.

Primary Duties:

  • Working independently, leads work crews in a variety of specialized W/WW maintenance and repair projects and semi-skilled labor tasks as assigned; duties will vary according to job assignment and individual skills.
  • Reviews work orders and job requests, and prioritizes tasks and projects; determines equipment, material and personnel needs; coordinates and assigns work crews, vehicles and equipment.
  • Orders and stages materials, supplies and equipment; reviews the work of assigned staff to assure the work quality and timely accomplishment of assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Trains crew in work procedures and the proper use and maintenance of equipment.
  • Controls work sites to assure that safety rules and regulations are adhered to, and that the work zones and all equipment are in safe operating condition.
  • Collects W/WW samples for testing; reviews water quality data and operational information, and generates summary reports as required.
  • Trains and evaluates staff; develops staff skills and conducts performance evaluations; meets regularly with staff to discuss and resolve workload and technical issues.
  • Maintains records and logs of work crew activities.
  • Operates and maintains a wide range of specialized vehicles, tools and specialized equipment; performs work in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; inspects, cleans and performs routine maintenance work on vehicles and equipment; identifies and reports mechanical problems requiring additional repair.
  • Responds to emergency callouts resulting from severe weather, major accidents or other factors; dispatches and accounts for crew activity during emergency events; performs tasks in the interest of public safety and property protection during emergencies.
  • Assures that work assignments are completed according to specified work orders.
  • Cross-trains work crews in proper work methods and safety procedures.
  • Maintains the integrity, professionalism, values and goals of the City by assuring that all rules and regulations are followed, and that accountability and public trust are preserved.
  • Cooperates with co-workers professionally to accomplish work efficiently and effectively.
  • Has regular, predictable attendance; attendance is a factor in continued employment with the City. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Experience/Education/Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent;
  • AND four years work experience in water utilities maintenance work, preferably with the City of Corinth;
  • OR an equivalent combination of related education, experience, or demonstrated abilities or proficiencies that result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.

Required Licenses or Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid Class A or B Texas Commercial Driver’s License with air brake endorsement prior to applying for the position. 
    • If applicant does not have the required driver license for the position, there will be a $1.50 reduction in salary until obtained.
  • A minimum of Class C Water or a Wastewater Collections 2 Operator licenses from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) are required or must be obtained within twelve months of hire; additional technical skills training and certifications may be required for some job assignments.
    • If applicant does not have the required TCEQ license for the position there will be a below minimum starting salary, until obtained.

Required Knowledge of:

  • City policies and procedures.
  • Federal, state and City safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Principles and methods of maintenance of water and wastewater stations and components.
  • Methods and procedures used to test, maintain and repair electrical and mechanical components.
  • Tools and equipment used in water utilities system maintenance.
  • Maintenance and repair standards for water utility equipment.
  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Proper use and storage of chemicals, including OSHA Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for hazardous chemicals used in the workplace.
  • Customer service standards and protocols.

Required Skill in:

  • Prioritizing tasks, and assigning and coordinating work of assigned personnel.
  • Reading and understanding construction blue prints, plans, specifications, and technical documents. 
  • Safe and efficient operation and maintenance of specialized tools and equipment to perform W/WW maintenance and repair work.
  • Making routine operating adjustments and repairs to assigned equipment.
  • Following and enforcing safety standards.
  • Closely following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers and the public.
  • Operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of business software.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

Work is performed indoors and outdoors at work sites throughout the City; required to perform moderate physical work, and lift and carry up to 80 pounds.
