Pay: $24.63 to $29.55 per hour
Under general supervision, leads and supervises City maintenance work crews; supervises the inspection, maintenance, repair and improvement of City parks, facilities, buildings, grounds, and other areas; assures that all safety regulations and procedures are followed.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leads and supervises the maintenance of parks, playgrounds, sports fields, recreation centers, and municipal facilities, including preventive maintenance, repairs and improvements.
- Inspects parks, facilities and equipment for maintenance priorities, damage, hazards and vandalism; evaluates maintenance and repair issues, and recommends and implements solutions to provide safe and clean parks and facilities.
- Coordinates the daily activities of maintenance work crews; assigns staff, vehicles and equipment; reviews the work of staff to assure the work quality and timely accomplishment of assigned duties and responsibilities.
- Meets regularly with staff to discuss and resolve special projects and workload issues; provides assistance and training in maintenance procedures and responsibilities; works with employees to correct performance deficiencies.
- Supervises maintenance staff, activities and resource allocations; schedules the application of pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers, and oversees work to assure the safe and effective application of materials; orders and stages materials, supplies and equipment for special projects and assures projects meet goals and standards.
- Maintains and repairs irrigation systems, sprinklers, lawns, sports fields, landscaping and other City facilities; prepares athletic fields for events; inspects playground equipment for safety concerns; performs skilled and semi-skilled facilities maintenance, preventive maintenance, component replacement and repair tasks.
- Performs a variety of administrative activities including records management, work orders, various inspections, employee scheduling, payroll reporting, and work activity reports; maintains inventories and assures that adequate materials, supplies, and tools are available.
- Monitors work sites to assure that safety rules and regulations are adhered to, and that the work zones and all equipment are in safe operating condition; recognizes and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries; identifies and reports mechanical problems.
- Operates a variety of trucks and equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; supervises setup and teardown and other tasks for special City events as directed
- Cross-trains work crews in maintenance duties.
- Responds outside of normally scheduled work hours in response to special events, natural disasters, emergencies, or critical incidents as determined by the City.
- Maintains the integrity, professionalism, values, and goals of the city by assuming that all rules and regulations are followed, and that accountability and public trust are preserved.
- Cooperates with co-workers professionally to accomplish work efficiently and effectively.
- Has regular, predictable attendance; attendance is a factor in continued employment with the city.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND four year’s building and grounds maintenance experience, preferably with the City of Corinth; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
- Must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s license or obtain a CDL within one year of hire.
- Must possess a minimum of two Specific technical certifications. Including; Pesticide, Playground Inspector or Irrigation system or you must obtain certifications within one year of hire.
Required Knowledge of:
- City policies and procedures.
- Regulations and standards governing the maintenance of public parks and municipal facilities.
- Federal, state and City safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards and safety precautions
- Methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the maintenance of municipal parks and facilities.
- Proper use and storage of chemicals, including OSHA Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for hazardous chemicals used in the workplace.
- Landscape and irrigation design and maintenance practices.
- Repair and maintenance standards for specialized equipment and vehicles.
- Customer service standards and protocols.
Required Skill in:
- Supervising staff, delegating tasks and authority, and evaluating staff performance.
- Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
- Monitoring operations and assuring parks and facilities are properly and safely maintained.
- Operating and maintaining power and hand tools, equipment and vehicles according to standard operating and safety procedures.
- Promoting and enforcing safe work practices.
- Troubleshooting irrigation system problems, and repairing systems and equipment.
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers.
- Operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of business software.
- Effective communication, both verbal and written.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors at parks and facilities throughout the City; required to perform moderate physical work, and lift and carry up to 80 pounds.
